What Do You Like Best?

In the past month we have increased our focus on social skill instruction and friendship building. As mentioned in a previous blog post, Melissa, our Social Skills Coordinator, will be an additional instructor and resource in the Academy for our students. Melissa has been a leader in the In STEPPS Social Skills program for several years and she will be a valuable resource! She is very excited to provide her support to the Academy and we will post some pictures soon!

In this blog I am posting a picture made by one of our students recently. He was asked if he could make a drawing and write about what he liked best about the Academy and he wrote “play with friends.” This is a student who has made great strides in his relations with peers this year. Before starting at the Academy  he had not had any meaningful friendships. With some support with flexibility and compromising, he has made tremendous progress and he now frequently comments and refers to his peers as his friends. How awesome is that!
